Family Dinner

Family Dinner

Do you all remember when was the last time you all ate as a family together at home, without the idot box shouting inbetween.

Having family meals can help reduce your family's risk for becoming overweight or obese. When families eat together, they tend to eat healthier meals -- less fried foods and more vegetables. The good news is that many families are already practicing this tip, this is partiularly very helpful for overweight kids when a child is overweight or obese, it's a family problem and, while not a solution in itself.

A study published in the March 2010 issue of "Pediatrics" found that about 56 percent of American families have dinner together at least six evenings per week, and when families ate dinner together more than five times a week, there was a 23 to 25 percent reduction in the number of kids with weight problems.

When families watch TV while eating, even if you're all sitting together at the dinner table, the nutritional quality of the meal takes a nosedive, so turn off the tube and spend time with each other.

Giving regular food a twist

Giving regular food a twist

Mommas dilemma .....how to keep the food healthy and interesting for their children. Kids throw a fit when they are served something they dislike.

You could always have an alternative for 'unhealthy' food, and create a healthier and nutrition-rich meal. Try turning the boring roti and sabzi into a vegetable wrap with loads of salad leaves, tomatoes and onions for the crunchiness.

Cheese and butter are a child's weaknesses. So, how do we make it healthy? for children, any dish with a top-up of cheese is too good to resist. But, you could use paneer instead or if they just can't do without it, try the cheese made from cow's milk.

It's all about giving the regular food a twist, making it look interesting and giving your old recipes a new look. Just a few changes here and there, and you have a healthy version of fast food. So gear up all MOMS create something healthy n interesting.

Moms are the best cooks after all!

Looking More Like an Apple or a Pear shape

Looking More Like an Apple or a Pear
Good health is determined not only by a healthy weight but also by a healthy waist size and body shape. Increasingly, doctors are using waist size and body shape, along with body weight, to predict your risk for chronic health conditions. The higher the waist to hip ratio, the higher the risk.

Apple Shaped

The apple shaped person carries most of the body fat in the abdominal region i.e have more fat surrounding their internal organs (visceral fat), also refered to as abdominal or central obesity. This kind of fat decreases insulin sensitivity, raises blood pressure, and decreases levels of 'good' (HDL) cholesterol there by putting the person at risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Pear Shaped

The pear-shaped person carries most of the body fat around the hips, thighs, and buttocks.
The risks for the overweight pear-shaped  are quite different to the apple shape. A pear-shaped  will typically be more susceptible to orthopedic problems, cellulite and varicose veins.

Being an “apple” or “pear” is partially influenced by the gene. However, a person’s lifestyle may affect the fat distribution too. For instances, excessive alcoholic beverages consumption may increase the fat carried in stomach area (bear belly). Similarly sedentary lifestyle a lot of sitting at one place can also lead to fat accumulation.

Anyways being overweight itself leads to a hell lot of issues so whatever shape you are lose weight and get into the healthy range.

Move More to Control Weight Gain During Pregnancy

Move More to Control Weight Gain During Pregnancy

If a woman gains too much weight during pregnancy, it increases her risk for complications such as preeclampsia (high blood pressure and excess protein in the urine) and for obesity after delivery, and also ups the baby's risk for childhood obesity.

Along with helping control weight, regular physical activity can help reduce back pain, boost energy levels and reduce insomnia.

In a study it was found that the amount of physical activity throughout the day had more impact. For example, a woman who didn't have a specific workout session but was active all day -- such as a waitress or a mother who has young children and is always on the move -- would get more exercise and burn more calories overall than a woman who had an exercise session but was otherwise inactive during the day.The findings show that it's important for pregnant women to increase their overall daily levels of activity.

"Maybe it means that you make a conscious effort, if you have a desk job, to get up every hour nd make a loop around your building for five minutes,". "Or maybe you walk to work or make an effort to park farther away or take the stairs.

Staying active throughout the day helps prevent obesity-related complications
