World no tobacco day

The theme of World No Tobacco Day 2018 is "Tobacco and heart disease."

Tobacco use is the second leading cause of CVD, after high blood pressure.

The WHO MPOWER measures  include:

Monitor tobacco use and prevention policies;

Protect people from exposure to tobacco smoke by creating completely smoke-free indoor public places, workplaces and public transport;

Offer help to quit tobacco (cost-covered, population-wide support, including brief advice by health care providers and national toll-free quit lines);

Warn about the dangers of tobacco by implementing plain/standardized packaging, and/or large graphic health warnings on all tobacco packages, and implementing effective anti-tobacco mass media campaigns that inform the public about the harms tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure.

Enforce comprehensive bans on tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship; and

Raise taxes on tobacco products and make them less affordable.

Don't skip Suhoor

Don't skip Suhoor (pre-dawn meal)

Suhoor is regarded as a benefit of the blessings in that it allows the person fasting to avoid the crankiness or the weakness caused by the fast.

Eat suhoor(sehri) just prior to dawn. Yes, it's hard to get up at that hour, which is why it has many benefits and rewards. And this morning meal is generally recognized as the single most important meal of the day. as this is needed to get you through the day. Many people eat a late night meal and sleep through till the dawn prayers. This is not advisable.

Skipping Suhoor prolongs the fasting period as your body will need to rely on the previous meal to provide you with all the nutrients and energy until Iftar (dinner). Due to the longer hours of fasting, you are more likely to feel dehydrated and tired during the day. Furthermore, skipping Suhoor also encourages overeating during Iftar, which can cause unhealthy weight gain.

So all those doing Ramadan please eat suhoor.

Watermelon Sabzi

Watermelon white portion (peel) sabzi

Do you know that the rind of water melon is edible? The term rind usually refers to the skin or peel of a fruit.

In watermelon, the rind consists of two parts – the outer green skin and the inner white pulp. The outer green skin of the rind is hard and inedible, so it is discarded. The inner whitish part of the rind is edible, although it has a bland taste when raw and is not as soft as the central red part.

About water melon white rind it is said that is very helpful in relaxing blood vessels and lowering blood pressure as it has a high dose of cirulline amino acid.

Finding a use for it also helps cut down on the amount of garbage you produce, so it’s good for the environment as well.So why to throw it, and try making its sabji.

It is very simple, tasty and easy to make. It tastes very similar to loki(bottle gourd), cucumber, turai all water based vegetable group.

My Mom use to make it, i remember enjoying it a lot, hope my version is nearest to hers.

Coconut water

Coconut water – the fluid of life

Tender coconut water is the natural isotonic beverage with almost the same level of electrolyte balance as we have in our blood.

Here is how it is excellent for the summer:

Oral rehydration medium – high in magnesium, potassium, saline and natural sugar. Popular with athletes.
Keeps the body cool.
Application on the body prevents prickly heat and summer boils and subsides the rashes.

It can be used (in emergencies) as a substitute for blood plasma.
The reason for this is that coconut water (the water found in coconuts – not to be confused with coconut milk, which comes from the flesh of the coconut) is sterile and has an ideal pH level. Coconut water is liquid endosperm – it surrounds the embryo and provides nutrition.

Keeps the body cool.

Watermelon juice - Healthy Summer drinks

#Healthysummerdrink
Watermelon the super duper cooler

It is the season of watermelons. They are best during the summer as they are sweet and juicy.
As the name says it all watermelon is 92% water and only 8%sugar.

Research shows that watermelon cuts the risk of sun related skin damage by 40%. That’s because watermelon is nature’s richest source of lycopene, an antioxidant that scavenges the UV-induced free radicals that cause sunburn and wrinkling. Lycopene may also help reduce the risks of cancer and other diseases.

Watermelon can help improve sleep. It is high in vitamin B6 which helps manufacture serotonin and dopamine (mood related chemical) in brain. When levels of serotonin increase at night, the brain is less sensitive to disruptive stimuli (like noise) during sleep.

It helps the body flush out toxins because it contains the organic compound citrulline, which is an amino acid that has been shown to help the liver and kidneys filter and get rid of ammonia. Ammonia comes in external forms, but is also a by-product of the proteins our bodies are burning up constantly for energy, and it’s quite damaging to our cells.Watermelon may also just give the liver an overall boost.

Watermelons are rich in electrolytes, sodium and potassium which are lost through perspiration. Also its high potassium content helps to control BP.

They are rich in Vitamin A, B and C. What’s more, they are low in calories and very nutritious.

Barely water

#HealthySummerdrinks
Barley water
In some countries, people consume barley rice during summer for its cooling properties.

Boil a table spoon of barley seeds in a liter of water. Bring down the quantity to half, if you don’t enjoy the bland taste, then you could add a dash of lemon and keep consuming barley water through out the day.

-Barley water also brings down the heat content in the body.
-It also works as an excellent substitute to aerated drinks to quench your thirst.
-As it’s a cooling agent it also helps reduce burning sensation in the stomach.
-It improves digestion and fight constipation, feeling of nausea.”
-Barley water also prevents urine from stinking. Infact it is the best medicine when you have a Urinary Tract Infection.
-Regular consumption of barley water cleanses your kidney and keeps it free of toxins.

A study conducted by American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that the fiber that comes from barley water lowers cholesterol, cuts risk of Type-2 diabetes. The antioxidants in barley prevents cancerous growths.

Sugarcane juice -.healthy summer drink

#HealthySummerdrinks
Sugarcane Juice –the very cooling drink

It may sound completely ridiculous at first, but sugarcane juice is actually good for you. Though it is comprised purely of sugar, it is comprised of the right sugar; that is unrefined sugar.

Sugarcane juice is sugar in its basic form: raw. Raw sugar is naturally good for the body, as it contains nutrients and minerals.

Refined sugar has been stripped of the nutrients and minerals, a process similar to the “bleaching” process of wheat flour. Refined sugar is pure carbohydrate and contains no other nutritional value, and during the refinement picks up unnatural chemicals such as phosphoric acid, sulfur dioxide and formic acid.

Watch out for other health benefits
